There has certainly been no shortage of controversial statements on family policy recently: the responsible minister, Lisa Paus, wants to lower the child tax allowance for higher earners in order to free up money for socio-political projects. In return, the CDU finance expert Antje Tillmann accuses the Green politician of playing off well-off and less well-off families against each other. And Finance Minister Christian Lindner acts as if he doesn’t understand the world, because he has just raised child benefit to a degree that no treasurer before him has.
